Raw Vegan Chocolate Orange Brownies

I love chocolate orange brownies. Absolutely love them.

In fact, I love chocolate orange anything. Well, within reason. I’m not quite sure I’d like my meat marinated in the stuff, but you get the picture…

These raw chocolate orange brownies are incredibly simple to make, yet full of rich, chocolatey flavour, with that burst of orange sweetness running right through. They taste sensational, and are evidence of the fact that you don’t need a cupboard full of processed, refined ingredients to create delicious treats.

  • For the brownies –
  • 1 ½ cups walnuts
  • ¼ cup brazil nuts
  • ¼ cup almonds
  • 3/4 cup cacao
  • 10 Medjool dates, pitted
  • Zest 1 orange
  • Juice ½ – 1 orange
  • Couple drops orange essence
  • Pinch pink salt
  • For the ganache –
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • ¼ cup cacao
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • Zest 1 orange
  • Drop orange essence

  1. Place the nuts into a blender and blitz until they’re nearly fine. Add the remaining ingredients, apart from the orange juice, and blend once more until they start to clump together, tasting for sweetness as you go. Add in the orange and blend again, then press down into a lined loaf tin, and place in the fridge to set.
  2. In the meantime, make your ganache by gently melting the coconut oil. Whisk in the cacao, maple syrup and orange zest and essence, then pour over your set brownies. Grate over some more orange zest, then cut into squares and enjoy.
